Frisco will see the first pieces of the $5 Billion Mile this year with a portion of The Star in Frisco opening by the fall. The $5 Billion Mile is a mile-long stretch of developments along the Dallas North Tollway between Warren Parkway and Lebanon Road.
Though some of the developments have not set an opening date, several announcements and projects have moved each development forward.
The Star in Frisco
The Star in Frisco, a mixed-use development that will be home to the Dallas Cowboys world headquarters, is slated to open the headquarters and multiuse events center by mid-2016. The development is 91 acres and will include restaurant, retail, office, hotel and event space. In September, Ford Motor Co. announced that the multiuse events center would be named the Ford Center at The Star. The events center will include 12,000 seats and two outdoor fields. In November, Omni Hotels & Resorts also released new details of its hotel, which will be attached to the Ford Center. The hotel will be 16 stories high.
Frisco Station
The largest of the $5 Billion Mile developments, Frisco Station is 242 acres. The development includes a mix of restaurant, retail, office and hotel space as well as medical facilities and 2,400 multifamily homes. In November, Frisco City Council approved an economic incentive agreement with Frisco Station that would total up to $121.5 million. Some requirements for receiving the incentive include building 250,000 square feet of retail, entertainment, hotel and restaurant space before Dec. 31, 2020. Frisco Station’s opening date has yet to be determined.
Wade Park
Wade Park, a 175-acre, mixed-use development, is slated to open in 2017. The development will include restaurant, retail, hotel, office and residential space. Several tenants have already committed to the development, including Whole Foods Market, iPic Theatre and Pinstripes. In 2015, Wade Park also announced that Langham Hotels & Resorts, The Rustic and Arhaus were joining the lineup, among others. Newman Real Estate also announced in November that the final phase of Wade Park has closed, meaning all of the 175-acre mixed-use development is sold.
The Gate
The Gate, a 41-acre development, will include restaurant, retail and hotel space as well as medical facilities and residential components. The Gate’s opening date has yet to be determined, but construction on John Hickman Parkway, which will border the development, has begun. The road will extend from Warren Parkway to Parkwood Boulevard and is expected to be complete by September. Plans for the development include hike and bike trails along Lebanon and Dallas parkways. The trails are planned to run through the Shops at Starwood and connect to the future Grand Park, according to city staff.
