Frisco drivers commuting through Plano may need to find alternate routes this weekend when the Dallas North Tollway closes near Tennyson Parkway for bridge demolition. Crews will begin shutting down the main lanes around 11 p.m. on Friday, June 10, according to the North Texas Tollway Authority. Officials plan to reopen the road by Monday at 5 a.m. in time for rush hour. “We try to do as much work on nights and weekends as possible,” said Michael Rey, North Texas NTTA media relations manager. The northbound lanes will be closed from the Spring Creek Parkway exit to the Headquarters Drive entrance ramp. Southbound lanes will be closed from the Gaylord Parkway exit in Frisco to the Spring Creek Parkway entrance ramp. Northbound DNT exits ramps to the Sam Rayburn Tollway will also be closed, as well as the southbound connection ramps from Sam Rayburn to the DNT. The weekend construction is part of a $218 million project that will add an extra lane to the DNT through Plano. In order to accommodate a wider road, the current Tennyson Parkway overpass has to be torn down and replaced, according to the NTTA. The Tennyson overpass consists of two bridges. NTTA crews will demolish the northern one first. During construction, cars traveling west on Tennyson will be rerouted to the southern bridge, reducing traffic to one lane in each direction. When the new bridge is finished, crews will then demolish the southern bridge, likely necessitating another weekend closure in coming months.
