Colleyville City Council approved a contract with MSB Constructors Inc. to enhance the city’s event venue, the Colleyville Center, at its May 21 meeting. Key elements include improving existing meeting rooms and constructing a courtyard space with a fountain.
The project is part of an effort to remain competitive and provide an attractive facility for residents and businesses, Colleyville Center Manger Leslie Hill said.
“At 21 years of age, the Colleyville Center hosts over 300 events a year,” Hill said. “We bring in over 25,000 guests annually to our community building.”
Colleyville city officials engaged with Hidell and Associates Architects to develop conceptual plans for a courtyard plaza in 2017, according to meeting documents. Center staff members, City Council and the Colleyville Center Advisory Board have met since then to discuss the project’s scope.
“The features that remain extremely exciting to residents, and I know the advisory committee, is the 3,900-square-foot courtyard with the water feature and metal trellis for wedding ceremonies,” Hill said. “A masonry brick wall will eventually enclose the landscaped, brick-paved courtyard.”
The project will not exceed $347,069, according to the contract. The Colleyville Garden Club has donated an additional $10,000 to go toward the project, Assistant City Manager Adrienne Lothery said.
Work must be completed by August 16, Hill said.
“Financial penalties are included if construction is not completed at that time,” Hill said. “We’re going to be shutting down our weekend events from July through the third week of August. But we will be renting out the meeting rooms, the smaller conference room.”
MSB Contractors will also work on window repairs, new door installations, landscaping, and stage door and trim upgrades, according to meeting documents.
