Frisco City Council member Tim Nelson announced on Facebook Tuesday that he is resigning as deputy mayor pro tem. Nelson will remain on Council, and Council is expected to select a new deputy mayor pro tem at the Nov. 7 meeting. Nelson said he solidified his decision after spending time with his family this past weekend and informed the rest of Council of the decision Monday. "I'm going to do what I've committed to doing, but all the ancillary extras, I'm going to cut back on," he said. "I need to be able to spend that time with my kids, especially as they've gotten older. They're 14, 12 and 8 now. I've heard from too many people that are wiser and older than me that said that time goes by way too fast, and I'm starting to realize that." Nelson was arrested in July for driving while intoxicated. He said the arrest did not influence his decision to step down as deputy mayor pro tem. Nelson has not been convicted in the case. Nelson was first elected to Frisco City Council in 2011. He was re-elected to his third term in May.
