Superintendent Jeremy Lyon, who has been with FISD since 2013, announced his retirement on March 17 after 31 years in public education. Lyon has been named the first president of Cooper Youth, a division of The Cooper Institute, a nonprofit research and education organization in the field of preventive medicine.

During the workshop, the board received a presentation from Cathy Mincberg, president of the Center for Reform of School Systems on the process of using an executive search firm and determining the right candidate for superintendent.

FISD sent out requests for proposals March 23, and as of this morning, it has heard from two search firms. Firms have until Wednesday to submit proposals.

Once all proposals are submitted, the board will meet April 4 to evaluate the proposals to narrow down the list of search firms. On April 10, the board will conduct interviews with each firm and make a selection at that night’s regular board meeting.

After the selection is made, the board will meet with the firm a week later to discuss the process of searching for a new candidate, said Chris Moore, FISD’s executive director of communications and community relations.

Mincberg said search firms are expected to gather community input, recruit candidates, provide information about each candidate, screen each candidate and arrange interviews for the board.

Mincberg said the search for a new superintendent could last about 3-6 months.
