Tim Nelson, who is running again for another term, currently holds Place 5. Nelson has held the position since 2011.

King said his decision to run for city council stemmed from his dedication to service.

“I’ve been serving people for a while as a pastor and I just really have a heart for the people of Frisco,” King said. “It’s something I can’t escape and I just really want to serve my community in a broader sense other than pastoring.”

King said Frisco is experiencing unprecedented growth and he became concerned that the city’s focus on growth would be at the expense of what makes Frisco unique.

“Growth is great and it’s important, but I see gaps,” he said. “I want to help us grow from a family culture standpoint and be able to maintain and sustain what makes Frisco great.”

Aside from being a pastor, King is also a business solutions specialist with the Microsoft Corporation. King has been in the information industry for nearly 20 years, designing technology solutions to help transform corporate operations and business process. King has also serves on nonprofit and professional committees and boards.

King said his lifelong dedication to service in his personal and professional life makes him a perfect candidate for Frisco City Council.

“I see people at their worst and it is my job to serve them and help them get to their best,” King said. “It’s not a matter of how you serve or what board you serve on but the key word is serving. Are you serving for your own edification or are you serving for the people?”

If elected to the council, King said the areas he would like to focus on include balanced growth, infrastructure for growth, public safety, citizen involvement and transparency, and family culture.

“I see Frisco as being the international standard of how to grow a city,” King said. "Frisco needs to become the international standard of how to do business, the international standard of how to incorporate its citizens, an international standard on how to exude compassion to one another and an international standard in preparing future generations and build them so they can take the lead."
