A special election will be held on Feb. 18 to fill the seat.

Plummer said she had always been interested in serving her community in some way.

“When I was in college I worked for state senator and he told me you just don’t go into politics; you need to go out there and figure out life and see how things work,” said Plummer, who has a political science degree. “I really took that to heart.”

Plummer went into retail management, got married and had children. She became involved in the community by becoming a Girl Scout Troop leader—or advisor as she prefers to be called—soccer coach and swim instructor.

She said she expected that maybe in the next five to 10 years she would run for office, but the opportunity came sooner than expected.

Her Girl Scout troop is working on attaining a badge called Inside Government, and one of the requirements is to help someone with a political campaign.

“We were trying to figure out how we were going to accomplish this task, and then an email came through about the City Council elections,” Plummer said. “And I thought, 'Here is an opportunity to teach the girls and serve my community further.'”

Plummer said she understands that she does not have the background that some of the people running for office have, but she said she cares about her community.

“I have heart, and I have passion to help people," Plummer said. “This might not go somewhere or it might go someplace, but in the end I’ve taken what the Girl Scouts have taught me, and therefore I’m living what I preach to the girls.”

She said by serving her community in different capacities has prepared her for serving on city council.

“I don’t have a background in real estate or banking but I have common sense,” Plummer said. “I think sometimes being a real person, knowing the real challenges that people face and by being in community is where I think my strength comes from for this role."

With the rate that Frisco is growing, Plummer said would like to focus on preserving the small town feel in Frisco by helping small businesses thrive. She also said she would focus on making sure the city is diligent with spending and making good choices.

Plummer said it is also important to make sure Frisco continues to be the best place for youth to learn values, compassion and community.

Other candidates who have filed for Place 1 include Brandon Burden, John Keating, John Redmond, Dan Stricklin, Hal Thomas, Damon Vinci, Stanley Wang and K.D. Warach.
