The total number of positive mosquito pools that have tested positive for the West Nile virus in Frisco has now reached 36 as five more mosquito pools were tested positive, according to a city press release. As a result, the city will spray for mosquitoes from 9 to 6 a.m. Sept. 3 and 4. No human cases have been confirmed. The city contractor will treat targeted areas in the following neighborhoods by ground spraying:

• areas surrounding the intersection of North County Road and Eldorado Parkway
• areas within the Starwood neighborhood (including areas north and south of Lebanon Road)
• areas south of Main Street between Teel Parkway and Legacy Drive
• the Frisco Lakes neighborhood

The city will also treat areas north and south of Little Ranch Road between FM 423 and Teel Parkway with larvicide, as needed. The Texas Department of State Health Services has confirmed 96 cases of either West Nile fever or West Nile neuroinvasive disease in Texas so far this year. Sixteen of those cases were confirmed in Collin and Denton counties. The department recommends the following four steps to avoid mosquitos:

• Wear insect repellent containing DEET.
• Drain standing eater.
• Wear long sleeves and pants at dusk and dawn.
• Use air conditioning, and secure windows and screens.
