The Dallas Cowboys and Baylor, Scott & White Health unveiled plans June 15 for a new sports health facility for athletes at The Star in Frisco, the new home of the Dallas Cowboys world headquarters.

The new 300,000-square-foot facility will be named Baylor, Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star. The facility, expected to be complete in early 2018, will focus on injury prevention, research and wellness for athletes of all levels.

According to officials the facility is expected to become a nationally recognized model for holistic treatment of physically active individuals.

“With a focus on preventing injuries and keeping people healthy, the goal of Baylor Scott & White Sports Therapy & Research at The Star is to make North Texas the safest place in the country to play sports,” said Joel Allison, president and CEO of Baylor, Scott & White Health.

The therapy and research center will be the first time an NFL team, a health system and a school district—Frisco ISD—have partnered on such a facility.

FISD Superintendent Jeremy Lyon said the partnership with Baylor, Scott & White will offer a variety of opportunity to Frisco students.

“We are looking at this center as a possible place where we can go a little deeper in prevention of sports injury, a little deeper in sports safety for young athletes and talking about how students can assist the trainers,” Lyon said.

Lyon said this also presents opportunities of internships and independent studies for students considering the medical field as a career.

“This is just another world-class organization coming to this location and it’s exciting because the conversation is about what we can all do together,” he said.

The facility will include an ambulatory surgery center, diagnostic imaging, a sports performance program, an urgent care center, outpatient rehabilitation, a pharmacy and more, all provided by Baylor, Scott & White.

Jerry Jones Jr., chief sales and marketing officer and executive vice president of the Dallas Cowboys, said the goal in Frisco is to revolutionize sports and medicine.

“With the largest not-for-profit health care system in Texas, we are paving the way for a new age in health and safety for athletes,” Jones said. “Baylor, Scott & White Sports Therapy and Research at The Star will become the standard-bearer innovating and improving future sports on a global level.”
