The second floor of the Frisco Public Library will soon have a Ready to Read Railroad to help children learn in new interactive ways.
Leadership Frisco, an outreach program of the Frisco Chamber of Commerce, announced plans Feb. 2 to revamp the children’s collection area on the second floor of the public library into an interactive learning experience.
Library Director Shelley Holley said the train is going to be an intentional learning space designed to prepare children up to age 5 for success in school.
Leadership Frisco member Kristin Grammar said the space is designed to replicate a train with child-size features and will serve as the entrance to the library’s children’s collection.
“With a mission to increase school readiness through purposeful and imaginative play, the project is geared to help young minds grow toward success,” Grammar said.
The Ready to Read Railroad is expected to open in June.
Grammar said the project will leave a lasting legacy to the youth of Frisco.
“The train celebrates the great history of the city of Frisco and its origins as a soil-rich farming community along the St. Louis-San Francisco Rail Line,” she said.
During the Feb. 2 City Council meeting, Frisco Mayor Maher Maso said he is excited to see the transformation of what he calls the “stroller alley” of the second floor.
“This is an opportunity to grow at something [the library] already excels at—which are reading programs—and this is just another step up,” Maso said.
