Council approves rezoning for Carvana Carvana will open a car vending machine in Frisco by the end of this year.[/caption]

In February, City Council approved a rezoning request and a specific use permit for Carvana, an online automotive retailer that allows customers to pick up their purchased vehicles at an automated vending machine.

The Carvana location is expected to open by the end of this year near Legacy Drive off SH 121.

To buy a vehicle through Carvana, customers would select a car online. Customers then purchase the car online and can apply for financing through the website. The purchased car will be ready for pickup at a vending machine location. When customers pick up a car, they can watch the car being lowered down from a tower like a vending machine.

Carvana has two vending machine locations in Atlanta, Georgia, and Nashville, Tennessee.

The Frisco Planning & Zoning Commission did not unanimously approve the rezoning for Carvana with some commissioners citing concerns about the size of the parking lot. Despite that, council unanimously approved the request.

“We talk a lot about innovation in Frisco, and I think this is an innovative design,” Council Member Will Sowell said.
