During the past legislative session State Rep. Pat Fallon, R-Frisco, helped pass a bill to rename FM 423 as the U.S. Army Sergeant Enrique Mondragon Memorial Highway. In June, Gov. Greg Abbott officially signed the bill.

Army Sgt. Enrique Mondragon was killed on Christmas Eve 2012 in Baraki Barak, Afghanistan, when his unit was attacked by small-arms fire while on patrol.

On Oct. 9, Mondragon’s family and friends gathered for a dedication ceremony at a public works facility in The Colony at which city leaders unveiled the new highway signs with the new name.

The portion of FM 423 that is renamed stretches through Frisco, Little Elm and The Colony. City leaders from each city were in attendance.

“Evil exists in this world, and it’s an unfortunate thing but it is the reality, and it’s one we cannot ignore and we must address, and we have to have men like Enrique Mondragon to be willing to answer that call,” Fallon said during the ceremony. “And he did answer that call and in doing so tens of thousands of lives have been saved.”

After the unveiling Frisco Mayor Maher Maso took the time to thank Fallon for his work in helping to pass the bill.
