Frisco came in second on a list of the fastest-growing economies in the United States for 2015, according to a study by Wallet Hub.
The online consumer resource looked at 515 U.S. cities varying in sizes on 10 key metrics including population growth, job growth, poverty rate decrease and unemployment rate decrease in a period spanning from 2008-2014. Frisco ranked No. 2 overall, falling behind the city of Odessa.
Texas cities dominated the list, with nine out of 10 cities listed being from Texas. In the top 25, McKinney also made the list at No. 11 and Fort Worth at No. 18.
Frisco has seen rapid growth for a number of years. It has come out in the top five rankings for cities with most growth, highest population and highest job growth. Frisco ISD on average has built three schools a year just to accommodate their increased student population, according to district officials.
Frisco also garnered a lot of attention with its $5 Billion Mile and its four mixed-used developments along the Dallas North Tollway. One of those developments includes the The Ford Center at The Star, an indoor events center, sports training facility and the Dallas Cowboys’ world headquarters.
“For the most part, it is a good thing when cities grow–when a city isn’t growing, it’s declining,” said Joan Fitzgerald, public policy and urban affairs professor at Northeastern University, in a Wallet Hub news release. “What attracts people are jobs. So it is an economic development strategy, which requires cooperation between the city and state government.”
