With Grapevine-Colleyville ISD’s 2011 bond program coming to an end, the Facility Innovation & Readiness Stakeholder Team is in the process of determining if GCISD needs to call a May bond election.

GCISD Chief Operating Officer Paula Barbaroux said the purpose of FIRST, which is composed of parents, educators and community members, is to determine if a bond is needed, and if it is, to make recommendations about what to include in a bond proposal.

“The district is finishing the last bond program, so this becomes a natural time to evaluate our facilities and support systems to determine if our learning environments, equipment and infrastructure are equipped to best support our educational programs,” she said.

Barbaroux said bonds are needed because the district’s operating budget is not able to fund large, nonrecurring capital expenditures. If FIRST decides to recommend a bond election, those recommendations would be presented to the GCISD board of trustees. Trustees would have to call the election in February for the bond to be on the May ballot.
