Last week the Frisco planning and zoning commission approved a preliminary site plan for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter on the southeast corner of FM 423 and US 380. Along with the Wal-Mart, the development includes three fast-food restaurants, convenience store gas pumps, a bank and three retail buildings.

Nearby, on FM 423 and Eldorado Parkway, a Wal-Mart Supercenter already exists, and farther down on FM 423 and Stonebrook Parkway is another development for a new Wal-Mart Supercenter.

“Each new store location is responding to Frisco’s rapidly growing demand for convenient access to affordable fresh produce, organic selections, fresh bakery and deli favorites, pharmacy and household merchandise,” Wal-Mart Communications Director Anne Hatfield said.

Hatfield said the Supercenter is expected to open in 2017.

There are three existing stores in Frisco and three others including the one on FM 423 and US 380 in the works.

P & Z Chairman Bill Woodard said the plans for the new store would not affect the development of the other stores.

The site plans will go before City Council for final approval.
