Residents elected Laura Hill as the city’s first female mayor May 9.

“I feel thrilled and honored beyond words,” Hill said.

Hill, a co-owner of Downey Publishing, said she is working with city staff to put together a nine-month vision plan. She said her plan involves making sure residents have earlier input when it comes to developing land, creating a new ethics ordinance for City Council members and commissioners, and working with Carroll ISD and the chamber of commerce to form SKIL, or Southlake Kids Interested in Leading.
