Reid, Fletcher neck and neck after March 4 primary election

Mark Reid and Susan Fletcher, who were separated by only eight votes after the Republican primary eleciton for the Precinct 1 Collin County commissioner seat, will head to a runoff election May 27.

Reid, who was appointed to the unexpired term vacated by Matt Shaheen in December, had 41.13 percent of the vote. Fletcher had 41.21 percent.

Reid said he has run a positive, issues-oriented campaign and plans to continue that strategy.

"We are going to talk about our decades of proven leadership and business experience that distinguishes us from our challenger, and we're going to continue to talk about the responsible, limited government that distinguishes Collin County government from so many others," he added. "We're going to keep working hard and drive on to victory on May 27."

Fletcher said she is proud of the work her team accomplished.

"From the beginning, I have highlighted the importance of economic development, staying ahead of the curve on infrastructure and making public safety a priority," she said. "As conservative Republicans, we must remember that wherever our differences may lie, we must focus on our core principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, personal responsibility, the rule of law and national/state sovereignty."

Ann Leiber also participated in the primary election. The two candidates receiving the most votes moved on to the runoff election.

Editor's note: The May issue will include a question-and-answer feature with the commissioner candidates.
