With more than 30 years behind it and numerous awards to its name, Leisure Living Pools could stand to market itself more aggressively, a point that owner Scott Moneta is the first to admit.

While its operation center—a less than 1,500-square-foot house-turned-office—may look humble on the outside, the inside walls are lined with dozens of awards honoring Leisure Living Pools' greatest creations: extravagant custom pools and outdoor landscapes built for some of North Texas' most well-known sports stars, celebrities and business figures.

A lot of other companies might make those awards the focal point of their marketing, but Leisure Living Pools is relatively quiet about its accolades. Instead, Moneta said he satisfies his competitive nature by constantly working on the customer experience.

"I just let my commitment to service and my OCD that I carry for getting things done guide the way that I do my business," he said.

Moneta said he credits his work ethic to his father, who started the business in 1980 working on neighbors' fences. From there the work grew to include spa installation and then pools.

These days the senior Moneta is enjoying a working retirement, occasionally coming to the Leisure Living Pools' office to help out.

Even when he is not around, though, his drive is still evident in how his son manages the day-to-day business, Moneta said.

"My dad was always wanting to do things better than everybody else and was not going to compromise on cost [to customers]" Moneta said.

Since its inception, Leisure Living Pools has scaled its operation up and down throughout the years, according to the market, Moneta said.

He finds it more efficient to partner with local subcontractors who can handle plumbing, masonry, deck work and cleanup, giving him and his microstaff more freedom to focus on working with customers on their dream designs.

As for the cost of those designs, Moneta is careful to point out that projects can range widely in terms of complexity and expense.

On average, however, the company's work tends to fall in the $80,000–$120,000 price range.

"You hate to say that because it scares people. Somebody hears a number, [and] they're going to kind of wince, but the reality is that's very typical today," he said.

For that expense, Moneta said customers get a slice of paradise in their own backyard and a lifetime of service to go along with it.

Moneta said he can recall numerous conversations in which he's talked returning clients out of paying for retouches or further work.

"I'm like, 'You've got more time left; everything still looks good.' I get satisfaction out of [the business]," he said. "I'm not a great salesman, not for somebody that's saying, 'Hey, I want to spend some dollars doing it,' but you treat people the way you want to be treated."
