Another entertainment facility is coming to Frisco along its North Platinum Corridor. Frisco City Council approved specific-use permit Tuesday night for an almost 7-acre entertainment venue called Music City on the east side of the Dallas North Tollway and just north of McCandless Way. The project is expected to break ground this year. The facility will have a 1,002-seat indoor theater, 390-seat outdoor stage and a restaurant. According to the city, the facility will host concerts, movies, wine festivals and theater productions. According to project architect Charles Hodges, there is a large restaurant in the middle of the complex with both formal and informal dining areas. The concert hall will also have a VIP reception area with seating. There will also be small guest kitchens for a revolving group of chefs. Hodges said the nearest residential neighborhood is just over 1,400 feet away. Council asked how this venue would compare to other entertainment venues. Hodges said it was important that this venue stay small and adaptable for events such as a speaker series, awards ceremony, runway fashion show or live music. Frisco Mayor Jeff Cheney said he believes the venue will be well-received by the Frisco community. “Our residents have been asking for more unique experiences, specifically, access to live music and other festivals, and we have a growing performing arts district. ... I think there will be no problems finding uses for this venue,” Cheney said. The planning and zoning commission approved the permit for the facility at its May 8 meeting. The property is across the tollway from The Star in Frisco and south of the $2 billion Wade Park mixed-use development, which is now facing foreclosure.
