The city of Allen saw less crime in 2025 than in previous years, a city report shows.
Police Chief Steve Dye presented the Allen Police Department’s annual report—which showed a 22.6% decrease in crime year over year—at a Feb. 24 city council work session.

The Allen Police Department recorded 885 crimes last year, a decrease from 1,143 crimes in 2024, according to city documents.
“We already had the lowest crime rate of the largest 50 cities in Texas,” Dye said. “When you’re already in a fairly safe community as we’re in, then it’s harder to achieve these types of decreases.”
Dye said several factors contributed to this decrease, including increased police presence in shopping districts, and patrolling alleys and neighborhoods at night. Violent crime, which the department defines as murder, negligent manslaughter, rape, aggravated assault and robbery, decreased from 121 in 2024 to 77 in 2025.
“This is very impressive,” Dye said. “I’m just so proud of the team and what they’re doing.”
The Allen Police Department hired six new staff positions with funding approved in the FY 2025-26 budget, Dye said.

The department is aiming to achieve a 10% reduction in the total number of crimes in 2026, Dye said.
The Allen Police Department also hopes to host one citywide crime prevention community event and increase department volunteerism by 20%, Dye said.
