A plan to bring a large-scale beer, wine and liquor store to The Village at Allen—and replace half of a dog park—cleared another hurdle on Tuesday.

The Allen City Council approved a special-use permit authorizing beer, wine and liquor sales for Total Wine and More, which plans to locate on the western portion of what is currently the Canine Commons dog park.

The tree-filled dog park, surrounded on all sides by parking lots, had been designated for a multi-tenant building in the original concept plan for The Village at Allen.

The applicant for the special use permit declined to speak at Tuesday's public hearing. No residents requested to speak, either. Council members approved the measure without discussion or debate.

During construction, crews will work to replace the western portion of the dog park and fence off a central portion of the park. That central portion, pictured in the map below, will reopen to dog-park users when construction is completed.
