The Cy–Fair Sports Association received a generous gift when local builders MacGuyer Homebuilder Inc. rebuilt a shed at the baseball complex off Queenston Road after an arsonist burnt it to the ground last September.
The fire reduced the 40-by-12-foot shed to ashes, destroying about $25,000 in equipment from baseball gloves to rakes to stripers. The tragedy occurred prior to the opening of the association's spring season, which began in February. More than 3,000 players between 5–12 years old have signed up this year, and in order to keep the little league season operating without the much needed shed, volunteers dedicated their time and efforts to provide necessary assistance and equipment.
"As we teach in our programs, adversity makes us stronger," said Scott Hunstman, CFSA president and treasurer. "We feel good about our reaction and the support we have received to bounce back in full."
MacGuyer Homebuilders, or MHI, decided to rebuild the shed as a service to the organization for all the work it has done for the children and their families in the community, said Gary Tesch, MHI president, who grew up as a member of the Cy–Fair Sports Association and who's children are active members today.
