The Cy–Fair Education Foundation awarded more than $282,000 in scholarships to Cy–Fair ISD seniors this year, and the organization is poised to give even more this year, CFEF's executive director Marie Holmes said. She said the donation was possible because of the foundation's annual events and the help of fundraising efforts through four local H-E-B locations.
"The scholarship funds are raised by fundraising events and endowments," Holmes said. "It is fantastic to work with H-E-B as a community partner. This will not only be an opportunity to raise funds for student scholarships, but will bring community awareness to the foundation."
From June 27–July 17, specified H-E-B grocery stores in the Cy–Fair area will participate in raising money for CFEF by accepting $1, $3 and $5 donations at registers. On the weekends of June 29, July 6 and July 13, student volunteers from CFISD and Lone Star College–CyFair have the opportunity to earn community service hours by selling H-E-B brand bottled water.
After about two years of preparation, this is the first time H-E-B has teamed up with CFEF on a fund-raising event, said Joe Scala, general manager of the Barker Cypress location.
