Austin's food scene continues to evolve with seven exciting additions hitting the metro area this spring.
From a family-owned craft beverage stand in Southwest Austin to an artisan bakery committed to clean ingredients in Mueller, these new openings showcase the diversity that makes Central Texas dining special.
Here's a guide to the latest restaurants, cafes, and food destinations worth checking out.
The family-owned beverage stand opened at The Food Trucks at Circle Drive in Southwest Austin in February, selling alcoholic beverages from around the world, including craft beers, a curated wine list and a full bar for specialty cocktails.
This pizzeria opened its second location in February, serving specialty, American and Sicilian-style pies all finished with pecorino cheese, garlic extra virgin olive oil and oregano. Along with pizza, the restaurant also serves a range of sub sandwiches and appetizers, such as meatballs, breadsticks and salad.
Now open under new management, this restaurant serves a range of North Indian and Indo-Chinese cuisine. Patrons will find a variety of entrees, including chicken tikka masala, Shezwan noodles, fried rice and chicken korma, as well as appetizers and beverages.
This market in Mueller offers bakery, cafe, deli and grocery items, such as produce and sourdough bread all made by the brand without seed oil, artificial preservatives, colors or flavors. The drink menu features an array of coffee, matcha, smoothies and juices.
The fast-casual restaurant, which will be located next to Hooky Entertainment, offers a variety of sub sandwiches, including prime rib steak, chicken salad, meatball and pork barbecue options. The business plans to host a grand opening event May 16 with the first 50 guests in line receiving free Potbelly for a year.
This locally owned barbecue truck will host its grand opening in the Sunset on the ‘Rise Food Truck Park May 15-17, offering authentic, slow-smoked barbecue cooked over a traditional offset smoker. The menu includes prime brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey breast, pork spare ribs and pulled ham as well as breakfast tacos.
Thai Isan mixes spicy, traditional Thai dishes with the down-home smoke of locally beloved Lone Star favorites, such as brisket and catfish.
The concept was born at home, when co-owner Suriyawadee Phapa began cooking traditional Thai dishes that quickly impressed her husband and business partner, Todd Ratajik. The menu leans on sauces, many of which are prepared in-house daily, including the pad Thai sauce, Ratajik said.
“It just makes for a really fresh flavor profile in almost all of our dishes,” Ratajik said. “It’s pretty cool to have that daily sauces that just come out tasting super fresh and delicious.”
Texas influences are woven throughout the menu. Brisket appears in egg rolls and curries, and house-breaded catfish offers another local protein option. A pad kra prow base with your choice of protein, breaded and sauced entirely in-house and a crispy fried soft shell crab round out some of the standout options.
