Leander ISD aims to fill multiple vacant positions before school year kicks off

To address the campus vacancies, LISD is hosting job fairs and informational sessions for community members interested in education, partnering with Spirit Cultural Exchange for international teachers, partnering with iTeach Texas and Texas Teachers for the LISD Aspiring Teachers Program, and conducting other initiatives.

In addition to the 208 campus vacancies, the district has 402 noncampus vacancies with child nutrition services, custodial services and transportation having the most openings. Substitute teachers are also an “area of concern,” McSpadden said at the meeting. The district has 318 available substitute teachers with a goal to reach 750 by the first day of school.

The district’s human resources department is still working to fill as many campus and noncampus vacancies and substitute teacher positions as possible before the school year starts.

“This is a team effort, so this requires help from principals and their assistant principals and all levels of the organization to make sure we are as close to 100% staff for the start of school as possible,” Superintendent Bruce Gearing said at the meeting. “We will of course be watching that very carefully and making any adjustments that are needed as we get closer to the start of school to make sure that all the needs of the district are covered.”
