‘Smiling is contagious, too’: Sidewalk chalk art contest held in three Leander neighborhoods

A Leander realty company recently sponsored a sidewalk chalk art contest, or Chalk Art Walk, in three Leander neighborhoods.

Fox Realty announced the contest on Facebook for Cold Springs, Hazelwood Leander and Block House Creek, according to Fox Realty owner Andrew Fox.

The contest, held March 24-27, involved children drawing on sidewalks and families walking the neighborhood to view the art. After parents voted, the winner from each neighborhood received a $25 gift card to All Things Kids in Georgetown.

Sophie Blanton won the contest in Cold Springs. Parents of the winners in Hazelwood and Block House Creek asked that their winning children’s names not be published, according to Fox.

The “best in show” award went to two girls who lived beside one another. The best friends connected their two works of art on the sidewalk with the words “I miss you,” according to Fox.

Fox said in an email he wanted to “help provide something fun for kids stuck at home, to give parents an activity with their kids [and] to promote local business by buying prizes for the winners.”
