2. Austin's professional softball team Texas Smoke to debut June 15

A new professional sports team is coming to Austin at 11400 Concordia University Drive. The Texas Smoke, a women’s professional softball team, will make their debut at Concordia University Texas’ Roberts Family Field with a June 15 game.

3. United Way for Greater Austin awards funds to 20 Williamson County nonprofits

United Way for Greater Austin granted $475,000 in strategic grant funding for 20 nonprofit organizations in Williamson County. The recipients of the award were leading organizations that serve more than 3,000 communities focusing on education, health and financial stability.

In January 2022, United Way for Greater Austin and United Way of Williamson County joined forces and merged into a regional organization supporting communities in Austin, Travis County and Williamson County. Donations to United Way contribute to the grants that were given back to organizations in the community.

4. Travis County Clerk's Office to hold free weddings June 26 to honor love between all

In honor of Pride month and the eighth anniversary of marriage equality, the Travis County Clerk's Office announced in a news release May 31 that officials will offer free wedding ceremonies June 26.

The ceremonies will be conducted by Judge Nicholas Chu at the Travis County Clerk's Office, 5501 Airport Blvd., Austin., from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. A marriage license will need to be obtained by June 22 as there is a 72-hour waiting period between ordering the license and receiving it.

5. Mobility Authority considers $104.7M worth of projects for FY 2023-24

The Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, which is gearing up to begin fiscal year 2023-24 on July 1, is looking years down the road and considering $104.7 million worth of 2028 capital improvement plan projects for the upcoming budget year.

Mobility Authority Executive Director James Bass provided the board of directors with details on the first year of the plan during its regular board meeting May 31. Bass explained that projects within the plan are broken down into three prioritization levels:

• Priority 1: These items are an absolute must to keep the Mobility Authority in good operating condition.
• Priority 2: These items would enhance roadway conditions and operations.
• Priority 3: These are improvements to consider if there are funds available.
