TxDOT works on new traffic pattern on Bryan-College Station ‘Big 6’ project

Construction on Hwy. 6 in Bryan-College Station continues as the Texas Department of Transportation works on a new traffic pattern for the week of Aug. 17. The new pattern is reported to begin Aug. 23.

What you need to know

• Aug. 18: Full closure of northbound lanes between Southwest Parkway and Briarcrest Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Traffic will be directed to exit Hwy. 6 at Southwest Parkway. Drivers may reenter south of Briarcrest Drive.
  • These northbound entry ramps will also be closed: south of Southwest Parkway, Harvey Road and University Drive.
• Aug. 19: Full & single lane closures along Southwest Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Full closure of northbound lanes between Briarcrest Drive and Southwest Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
    • Traffic will be directed to exit Hwy. 6 at University Drive. Drivers may reenter north of Southwest Parkway.
    • These southbound entry ramps will also be closed: north of Briarcrest Drive, University Drive and Harvey Road.
  • Single-lane closure of northbound lanes between Southwest Parkway and University Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
    • TxDot will also close off the northbound mainland for material haul off.
• Aug. 20: Full & single lane closures along Southwest Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Full closure of southbound mainlanes between Briarcrest Drive and Southwest Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
    • Traffic will be directed to exit Hwy. 6 at University Drive. Drivers may reenter north of Southwest Parkway.
    • These southbound entry ramps will also be closed: north of Briarcrest Drive, University Drive and Harvey Road.
  • Single-lane and full closure of northbound lanes between Southwest Parkway and University Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
    • TxDot will also close off the left northbound mainland for material haul off with a full closure between University and Briarcrest drives to set traffic barriers.
    • Traffic will be directed to exit at University Drive’s northbound exit and may reenter south of Briarcrest Drive.
    • The northbound entry ramp south of University Drive will also be closed.
• Aug. 21: Full & single-lane closures along Southwest Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Full closure of southbound mainlane between Briarcrest Drive and Southwest Parkway, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
    • Traffic will be directed to exit at the southbound University Drive off-ramp. Drivers may reenter north of Southwest Parkway.
    • These southbound entry ramps will also be closed: north of Briarcrest and University drives and Harvey Road.
  • Single-lane closure of northbound mainlane between Southwest Parkway and University Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
    • TxDOT will close off this lane for material haul off.
• Aug. 23: Single-lane & full closure of northbound mainlane between Southwest Parkway and University Drive, 7:30 p.m.-6:30 a.m.
  • Traffic will be directed to exit at the northbound University Drive off-ramp. Drivers may reenter south of Briarcrest Drive.
  • The northbound entry ramp south of University Drive will also be closed.
  • TxDOT will close this lane for material haul off and the full closure is scheduled for crews to designate a new traffic pattern.

Going forward

TxDOT began its $670 million “Big 6” project in December 2025 and is expected to continue through 2030.

Throughout the next six months, TxDOT said drivers should expect two main lanes in each direction to be accessible as construction of temporary pavement and retaining walls continue.
