Clear Creek ISD approves $133K in upgrades for Challenger Columbia Stadium

Clear Creek ISD’s board of trustees approved $133,000 in capital projects funding at its March 23 meeting to replace rusted and weathered perimeter gates and signage, as well as construct two access ramps at Challenger Columbia Stadium, located at 1955 W. NASA Blvd., Webster.

The funding, derived from savings and interest earned from the district’s 2017 bond, includes nearly $9,600 of contingency funds for unexpected costs, according to district documents.

District officials said many of the stadium’s steel gates have deteriorated, requiring temporary repairs.

The new gates will be made of powder-coated and galvanized steel, which is expected to last around 20 years, CCISD Director of Facility Services Alex Aragon said.

In addition to the gate replacements, the district will also upgrade aged and rusted signage around the stadium, according to district documents.

What’s next

The district anticipates that all construction and upgrades will be completed by graduation, scheduled for May 19-23, Aragon said.
