An open house event hosted tonight will give South Austin community members the opportunity to provide input on proposed improvements to Redd Street and St. Elmo Road. City staff from the Austin Transportation Department will be onsite to explain the project and address concerns. The feedback provided will guide the department's project design edits moving forward.
Both streets provide east-west access to residents of South Austin and are home to two elementary schools and churches. Bicycle and Capital Metro bus routes are also present.
Proposed improvements include completing sidewalk gaps on Pack Saddle Pass near Redd Street, shortening and improving the visibility of pedestrian crossings on Redd Street and St. Elmo Road, and upgrading bicycle route connectivity to improve active and safe routes to school for students at St. Elmo and Joslin elementary schools.
Interested residents can provide feedback tonight at Joslin Elementary School, 4500 Manchaca Rd. from 6-7 p.m. or by contacting the project designer Aleksiina Chapman at 512-974-7798 or
