Construction on the $674 million Oak Hill Parkway project in South Austin is ongoing, with work being conducted at the east and west ends of the project and at the Y intersection where Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 71 intersect, according to an update from Texas Department of Transportation.

The Oak Hill Parkway project will widen the highway that connects downtown Austin to Dripping Springs to 10-12 lanes along most of its length, and up to 15 lanes in certain locations. Two flyovers linking Hwy. 290 and Hwy. 71 and cross street connections at Convict Hill Road, RM 1826, Scenic Brook Drive and Circle Drive will also be added. Construction is scheduled to be fully completed in 2026.

At the project’s west end, teams are installing drainage and utility infrastructure to prepare for future frontage road construction and road widening, according to TxDOT. A traffic shift was placed west of Circle Drive. Two sound walls to mitigate construction noise and several retaining walls are being built near Circle Drive, Convict Hill Road and RM 1826.

Close to the Y intersection, bridge construction continues on the improved Old Bee Caves Road bridge crossing Williamson Creek. McCarty Lane at Hwy. 290 closed during April and will remain inaccessible until next year. Traffic is being detoured via Joe Tanner Lane.

Workers are currently widening the Hwy. 290 bridges over Old Fredericksburg Road and Monterey Oaks Boulevard at the project’s east end, according to TxDOT. Shared-use paths for cyclists and pedestrians are also being constructed on the north and south side of Hwy. 290.
