The Reimers Observatory at Reimers Ranch is celebrating 10 years of stargazing and astronomy education this weekend.

The details

Travis County and the Travis County Parks Foundation are holding a 10th anniversary celebration at the observatory at Reimers Ranch on March 29. The celebration will include stargazing, educational activities and presentations by astronomers.

Spots are full, but members of the public can join the waitlist, a news release said.

Travis County Commissioner for Precinct 3 Ann Howard said the observatory provides visitors an opportunity to learn about the sky above them.

“For the past 10 years, Reimers Observatory has been a beacon of discovery here in Travis County.” she said. “This observatory has not only deepened our understanding of space, but it has also inspired countless visitors to view the heavens with awesome wonder.”

What else

Opened in 2015, Reimers Observatory has offered a space for visitors to view starry skies and participate in various educational programming. The observatory programs include discussions on constellations, planets, the Milky Way and more.

The decade-old Reimers Observatory was funded through a Travis County bond project that funded the purchase of Reimers Ranch parkland and park improvements, according to the observatory website.

Located beyond west Austin in Dripping Springs, the observatory has two telescopes on site—a 25-inch telescope and a 15-inch telescope.
