In her second year teaching with Dripping Springs ISD, Jamie Malchak, a Cypress Springs Elementary School kindergarten teacher, was recognized Jan. 6 as the inaugural winner of the Texas Education Service Center Region 13 Star of the Month.

The Star of the Month program was created by the Region 13 Education Service Center to recognize the educators in Region 13, which includes 102 school districts in Central Texas. The Star of the Month is awarded to those making positive impacts on students and recognizes their contribution to the public school system.

Malchak is the first award recipient for Star of the Month, according to Rich Elsasser, the executive director of Region 13. Malchak received her award in her classroom Jan. 6 in front of her students.

Cypress Springs Elementary Principal Kellie Raymond nominated Malchak.

“Mrs. Malchak works tirelessly for the students and families of Cypress Springs Elementary and sets a standard for excellence in teaching and engagement that is unparalleled,” Raymond said in a statement. “She is a light and a joy for Cypress Springs Elementary and DSISD.”

As part of the award, Malchak received a scholarship from Abilene Christian University Dallas to be used toward a graduate degree. Chick-fil-A, H-E-B, the Hill Country Ranch Sweet Shop and Dripping Springs Education Foundation also honored Malchak with gifts.

Joining Malchak in celebration Jan. 6 were district members and campus leadership as well as leadership from Region 13.

“I am so happy to be part of such a special district,” Malchak said Jan. 6 as she received her award in her classroom. “It’s been the best decision of my life to come here.”
