Experience serenity: Lakeway Resort and Spa rebrands restaurant with locals in mind

Experience serenity: Lakeway Resort and Spa rebrands restaurant with locals in mind

Lakeway Resort and Spa is undergoing a thoughtful rebranding effort for their food and beverage outlets designed to welcome and engage more residents from the surrounding area.

Originally built in 1963, the resort has long been a part of the community’s story. Now, its food and beverage leadership team is working to make it a go-to destination not just for travelers, but for locals, too.

Access to resort amenities without membership

A key aspect of the resort’s refresh is eliminating the misconception that its facilities are exclusive to hotel guests or members.

“A lot of people don't know that they don't have to be a member to be a patron here, and they also don't have to be a guest at the hotel to visit any of the outlets, including our pool,” Food and Beverage Director Rohan Sreenivasan said. “They can purchase a day pass and enjoy the amenities.”

The ‘Sixty-Three Restaurant & Bar experience

Named in honor of the original Lakeway Inn, ‘Sixty-Three Restaurant & Bar’, formerly TR Restaurant & Bar, will offer a dining experience that blends relaxed Hill Country hospitality with upscale presentation. Open seven days a week, the restaurant will serve breakfast daily, with lunch and dinner service available as well.

Diners stepping into the space will be greeted by warm wood tones, refined dining elements and a menu that reflects the region’s culinary spirit.

The culinary direction is now led by a new executive chef, Jennifer Norell, with over 20 years of experience in both hotel and restaurant kitchens. She’s reshaped the menu based on guest feedback, balancing approachable comfort food with elevated dishes.

“We have our own in-house barbecue, and we smoke our own meats,” Sreenivasan said. “We have menus that cater more to our hotel guests, as well as our backyard bites menu, which is more centered around having some pub fair appetizers for folks who want to come relax at happy hour.”

The addition of Morgan Barecky, a new food and beverage manager with over 25 years of experience in hotels, restaurants and upscale dining, has further enhanced service.

“Morgan has already been a critical piece in helping us elevate the service standards that we have in our restaurant,” Sreenivasan said. “We really want the restaurant and the outlets on this property to be regularly frequented by locals coming for a casual happy hour, to celebrate a holiday or to have a fancy birthday dinner. We can do it all.”

Resort dining and poolside relaxation

The resort offers multiple options for casual dining and drinks with a view. Each outlet features its own dedicated food and cocktail menus to match the leisurely lakeside atmosphere.

Hours of operation include:
  • TR Restaurant Bar & Lounge (soon to be Sixty-Three Restaurant & Bar)
    • Open daily
    • Breakfast: Mon.-Thu.: 7-11 a.m. and Sat.-Sun.: 7 a.m.-3 p.m.
    • Lunch: 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
    • Dinner: Sun.-Thu.: 5-9 p.m. and Fri.-Sat.: 5-10 p.m.
  • Sunset Pool Bar:
    • Currently open on weekends from 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
    • Open daily from May 23 - Sept. 1
  • Back Porch Bar:
    • Open Sun.–Thu.: 4-10 p.m.
    • Open Fri.–Sat.: 4-11 p.m.
Happy Hour is available at TR Restaurant & Bar and Back Porch Sun.-Thu. from 3-6 p.m.

The team is also working on integrating more live music, tasting experiences and interactive events to keep things lively for locals and resort guests alike.

Community-focused events and partnerships

Lakeway Resort and Spa has ramped up efforts to build a more robust calendar of events designed to draw the community in. Wine dinners, brewery collaborations and distillery events are becoming a staple.

“We want to really keep pressing in the direction to make this more of a destination spot for a dining establishment as well,” Sreenivasan said.

Upcoming events include:
  • Craft pint night with St. Elmo Brewing, including a take-home pint glass: May 9
  • Mother’s Day brunch with mimosa bar in partnership with La Marca Prosecco: May 11
  • Build-your-own old fashioned night with Milam & Greene Distillery: June 13
  • Five course wine pairing dinner featuring DAOU Vineyards: June 22

A message to the Lakeway community

As the rebranding moves forward, Sreenivasan wants one message to be clear: This space is built with the Lakeway community in mind.

“We're here, and we’re ready to serve the people here,” Sreenivasan said. “We want to take care of them, and we want to hear from them because we value their feedback.”

The rebranding of TR Restaurant Bar & Lounge at Lakeway Resort and Spa is aiming for a grand reopening in June or July. To learn more, visit their website.
