At the board's information meeting, Candace Hunter, Kathryn Whitley Chu, Andrew Gonzales and David Kauffman were sworn in. Incumbent Arati Singh was re-sworn in as the District 9 trustee at large.
Hunter will replace LaTish Anderson as the District 1 representative. Anderson did not seek re-election for the seat. Hunter received 64.37% of the vote against her opponent, Roxanne Evans.
Whitley Chu will replace Kristin Ashy in District 4. Ashy did not seek re-election. Whitley Chu received 71% of the vote against Clint Small.
Gonzales will replace Geronimo Rodriguez for Place 6. Rodriguez was the board president and ran in the Nov. 8 election. Gonzales won with 66% of the vote.
Kauffman will replace Yasmin Wagner for District 7. Kauffman ran unopposed.
At the meeting, Singh, who ran against Heather Toolin and won re-election with 67% of the vote, was selected as board president. District 3 Trustee Kevin Foster, who was not up for election this cycle, was chosen as the vice president.
In total, four incumbent trustees remained on the board either because their term was not up or by winning their race, while four new members were sworn in.
The trustees will contend with a number of AISD items in the coming months, including naming an interim superintendent, overseeing the search for a full-time superintendent, a potential tax agreement with a semiconductor company called NXP and the implementation of a $2.44 billion bond.
