A new building on the Blazier Elementary School campus for fourth through sixth graders opened Dec. 4. The $50 million facility was funded by the 2017 Austin ISD bond and began construction in June 2019.

The new building is located at 8801 Vertex Blvd. Austin, across the street from the original building at 8601 Vertex Blvd., Austin. The original building will continue to house Blazier students in Kindergarten through third grade.

The addition is part of a plan to relieve overcrowding at Blazier, which had an enrollment of 914 students as of fall 2019 for an original building built to house 598 students. According to AISD, the new 132,000-square foot campus has capacity for 696 students. Eventually, AISD plans to expand the site further to include pre-K through eighth grade students at Blazier.
