Travis County has officially reported its 2,000th confirmed coronavirus case, with 56 new cases reported May 7.
With 2,002 total cases since mid-March, Travis County has also seen 59 coronavirus related deaths in that time and 659 recoveries, according to local health officials.
Travis County Civil and Family Courts also announced May 7 that it would be suspending in-person hearings until June 29. According to the county, hearing scheduled before June 29 and jury trials scheduled before Aug. 17 have been postponed and will be rescheduled to a later date.
Austin City Council May 7 extended missed rent protections through Aug. 24 for Austin renters impacted by the economic devastation caused by the coronavirus. Austin Mayor Steve Adler also signaled he would extend his own unilateral order to prohibit evictions through July 25.
