Golden Hour Neighborly Café and Wine Shop opened Nov. 9 at 7731 Menchaca Road, Ste. 100, Austin.

Golden Hour specializes in natural and low-intervention wines, specialty coffee and seasonal European-influenced cooking.

"We are driven by our experiences abroad and inspired by our neighbors here at home," owner and head chef Barclay Stratton said.

Stratton said he refined the menu to his liking in the Southwest Austin area so people nearby can enjoy good coffee, wine and food without having to cross the river. He said he specializes in natural wines from all over the world, which are made through a minimal-interventionist style, typically with organic, biodynamic and/or sustainably grown grapes.

"This is wine how it used to be made before mass-commercial agriculture and conventional yeast and additives were used to extend shelf life and consistency between vintages," Stratton said. "As a chef, I like to compare it to sourdough bread which—as you may know—is made with flour, water and wild yeast. Simply put, these wines are made in a very similar way."

The cafe and wine shop is open Monday through Saturday for breakfast cakes, savory pithivier and pastries starting at 7 a.m. At 2 p.m., it begins its all-day menu including charcuterie and gourmet cheese plates and closes at 7 p.m.

On Thursdays through Saturdays, it opens at 7 a.m., and starting at 5-10 p.m., it offers seasonal dishes, such as a Lamb Ragu, Tuna Crudo, Mussels Tartine and more.
