Construction has kicked off on a segment of Airport Boulevard from 45th Street to Middle Fiskville Road.

The details

As part of 2016 mobility bond projects, the road’s improvements will be carried out in phases, incorporating mobility and safety enhancements that align with the city's vision for “urban corridors,” according to city documents.

Safety improvements are intended to make Airport Boulevard more pedestrian-friendly, the documents state.

During Phase 1 of road work, crews will install shared-use paths and intersection safety upgrades along the west side of Airport Boulevard.

Phase 2 will see pedestrian signals installed at Airport Boulevard and Middle Fiskville Road.

Construction is anticipated to take roughly eight to nine months, according to a spokesperson with city’s department of Transportation and Public Works. The project will begin at Middle Fiskville Road and move south toward I-35, with a specific focus on the west side of the roadway.

The total project cost is estimated at $3.7 million.
