Austin and Travis County will begin offering free holiday tree recycling starting Dec. 26.

What you need to know

Both curbside and drop-off recycling services are available from the city and county for natural trees that have all decorations, stands, screws and other materials removed.

In Austin, curbside customers can leave their trees at the front of their houses for free pickup on their composting collection day by 5:30 a.m. Residents can also drop off their trees at Zilker Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Dec. 28 and Jan. 4-5.

Trees dropped off at the park will be mulched, and residents can pick up the mulch available on a first-come, first-serve basis starting Jan. 8 at 9 a.m.

More information from the city is available online.

Travis County will open five drop-off locations operating daily from Dec. 26-Jan. 12 from 7 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Bulk drop-offs of up to 25 trees will be accepted at two locations and must be scheduled in advance by calling either the county's East Service Center at 512-854-9114 or West Service Center at 512-854-8140.
