Early voting starts Oct. 21, and Austin-area residents can make their decisions on the many local, state and federal contests on the ballot through Nov. 1, or on Election Day Nov. 5.

What you need to know

In Travis County, voters can cast an early ballot at any of the dozens of polling places that are now open daily. Early voting runs from 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from noon-6 p.m. on Sunday. Select locations are open until 10 p.m.

Voters must bring one of seven forms of identification to the polls. More information on voting is available from the county and state.


On the ballot

A complete list of offices and propositions for all levels of government on the ballot in Travis County can be viewed online. Voters may also check their registration status and view a personalized sample ballot here.

Across Travis County, residents are being asked to consider a tax rate increase to fund affordable child care initiatives. County commissioner, constable and judicial positions on the ballot are uncontested.

In Austin, all residents can cast a vote for mayor while five City Council races are contested. There are 22 candidates in total.


Community Impact questionnaires with candidates for the following Austin races are available online:Additionally, a small number of South Austin voters will decide whether about 100 acres of land along Menchaca Road will be released from Austin's extraterritorial jurisdiction—land outside city limits where some local development and environmental rules still apply.

Voters in Austin ISD are also facing a tax rate increase on the ballot. The hike was proposed to help fund gaps in the district's budget, although most of the added revenue would be used for state recapture payments.

While some AISD board of trustee races are uncontested, eight candidates are running for the District 2 and at-large Position 8 seats.

Austin Community College's Place 7 and Place 9 trustee seats are contested as well, with two candidates in each race.
