Central Texas school districts announced delays and closures for Jan. 16 due to forecasts showing subzero wind chill temperatures, with wind gusts up to 30 mph.

The National Weather Service issued both wind chill and freeze warnings Jan. 15, advising that cold temperatures and wind chill values as low as zero to minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit could persist through the morning Jan. 16. School districts across central Texas announced closures of facilities and delayed start times out of caution, as some roads may still be icy.
What you need to know
The following districts have announced closures:
- Bastrop ISD
- Dripping Springs ISD announced all classes would be canceled Jan. 16 due to "water issues that are now occurring across the district," officials said Jan. 15.
- Hays CISD
- San Marcos CISD
- Austin ISD: Campuses will operate on a two-hour delay.
- Eanes ISD: Campuses will operate on a two-hour delay. More information on when each campus will start is available on the district’s website.
- Georgetown ISD: Campuses will have a two-hour delayed start, and transportation will also pick up students with a two-hour delay. Scheduled athletic programs will also operate on a two-hour delay.
- Hutto ISD: Campuses will operate on a two-hour delay.
- Lake Travis ISD: Campuses will have a two-hour delayed start. Elementary campuses will start by 9:40 a.m., and secondary campuses will start by 10:50 a.m. The school day will end at its regular time.
- Leander ISD: Campuses will operate on a two-hour delay. More information on when each campus will start is available on the district’s website.
- Liberty Hill ISD: Campuses have a two-hour delayed start, and bus schedules will be adjusted accordingly. More information on when each campus will start is available on the district’s website. All outdoor practices and activities will be cancelled or moved inside.
- Pflugerville ISD: District schools will operate on a two-hour delay.
- Round Rock ISD: School start and transportation pickup times will be delayed by two hours, and the school day will end at its regular time.
