Moment of Tea

Owner Tran Nguyen launched Moment of Tea on the second floor of Casa de Luz Village. The Japanese-inspired tea house serves caffeinated and non-caffeinated teas including Matcha Otome, Sobacha Aiji and Jasmine Green. Teas are served three ways: hot loose leaf, blended warm with milk or cold brewed.

Cinque Terre West ATX

Husband-and-wife duo Gianbattista and Marlo Vinzoni have relocated their Italian restaurant, Cinque Terre West, from California to Austin. The restaurant offers dishes like spaghetti vongole e bottarga made with Manila clams, garlic, Fresno chile, white wine, parsley and shaved dried mullet roes.

Shug’s Bagels

The Dallas-native bagel shop is now open after a quiet soft opening in early August, according to its Instagram. Shug’s sells customizable bagels, breakfast sandwiches, chicken cutlet sandwiches, coffee and other beverages.

Cuvée Coffee

South Lamar has a new spot to grab a coffee, a cocktail or both. The menu includes classic espresso drinks and nitro cold brew alongside frozen cocktails.

Hopdoddy Burger Bar

Hopdoddy Burger Bar launched its latest location in Mueller on Aug. 5, bringing burgers, sides and breakfast, according to a news release. Hopdoddy offers specialty burgers, salads, fried chicken sides and shakes. For beverages, the restaurant serves shakes, specialty cocktails, beer and wine.

Austin Padel Center

After opening its first three indoor climate-controlled padel courts in March, the remaining six padel courts are now open. The facility also offers a variety of amenities such as a recovery area with a sauna and cold plunge, a pro shop, and a full bar with food and beverages.

Feel Free IV

Neko Yubu

Neko Yubu launched with a soft opening earlier this month and a grand opening Aug. 8. Owners Dean Kim and Connor Park plan to serve a selection of Korean and Japanese-inspired yubu, which are fried tofu skins stuffed with rice and different add-ins.

Torch Literary Arts

The 501(c)(3) nonprofit, which focuses on advancing opportunities for Black women writers, is opening a physical space. The organization hosts reading and writing workshops, features a curated bookshop and publishes work from new and experienced writers in its online publication.

Roccito’s Garden

Rocco’s Neighborhood Joint announced its sister concept, Roccito’s Garden, is now open. The wine garden is open Thursday through Sunday according to the brand’s Instagram bio.

Coming soon

Mendocino Farms

A new Mendocino Farms location is coming soon to South Lamar in September, according to a representative from the brand. The restaurant sells specialty sandwiches, salads, wraps, soups and sides.

Athletic Outcomes

Owners announced the expansion on the gym's website and social media pages in March. The functional fitness studio offers coached group classes, small-group personal training capped at six people, one-on-one training, pre- and postnatal training and physical therapy, as stated on its website.

Urban Egg

The restaurant will serve up breakfast and lunch on Burnet Road with a projected opening in October, according to the company’s marketing team. Menu options include pancakes, cinnamon rolls, breakfast burritos, burgers and sandwiches.

Murphy’s Pup Bus

Austinite Craig Friedman is launching a new concept for locals: Murphy’s Pup Bus. The new business venture will center around dogs in Austin, picking them up in the “pup bus” and taking the pets to a nearby five-acre ranch with a tent, misting fan system, dog park and dog swimming pool.

Ben and Jerry’s

Ben and Jerry’s is headed to Rosedale Village Shopping Center, marking its first Austin-area location. The ice cream brand is targeting a mid-November to mid-December opening, according to a representative.

Metro Private Cinema

Tim League, co-founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, will open a private theater in the historic Baker School in Hyde Park. The cinema will offer a private dining experience and a movie screening for four to 20 people. Viewers can choose from new releases, independent films or classics.

Connie’s

The historic Bergen-Todd House on South Congress Avenue will relaunch next year as Connie’s, an Austin restaurant equipped with a seasonal menu and outdoor patio, according to co-owner Dustin Minium. The menu at Connie’s will be inspired by seasonal and regional flavors and feature an outdoor brunch.

Relocations

Fabrik

The local plant-based micro-tasting restaurant relocated from its East Austin location to a new spot in Tarrytown. Fabrik is led by executive chef and owner Je Wallerstein and restaurant manager and owner Silas Wallerstein. The restaurant is now offering an eight-course summer tasting menu for $105 per person.

Yummy Mommy Thai Cuisine

Yummy Mommy Thai Cuisine is making its return after temporarily closing earlier this year. The Thai restaurant is set to open at its new location on Burnet Road next month, according to the team. The menu includes coconut curry, pad kee mao, tom yum soup and stir-fries.

Kick Pleat

Austin apparel company Kick Pleat is relocating to a larger storefront along North Lamar Boulevard, according to owner Wendi Martin. Kick Pleat will cease operations at its existing location Sept. 30 with plans to reopen at a permanent spot in December or January, she said.

Expansions

AFS Cinema

Construction is now underway at AFS Cinema and is bringing an additional screen. Renovations are slated to debut this fall, and construction will not disrupt regular programming, Holly Herrick, head of film and creative media at Austin Film Society, said.

Closings

Turf N Surf Po’ Boy

After 16 years in downtown Austin, Turf N Surf Po’ Boy is now closed, owner Ralph Gilmore said. The restaurant previously sold po’ boys, tacos, salads and sides. In September, Gilmore will launch a new restaurant in Aransas Pass, Texas, called Hook House Kitchen, serving surf and turf options.

Picnik

Founder Naomi Seifter announced in an Instagram post that Picnik shuttered its doors. Seifter will open a refreshed concept in its place, coming within the next four to six weeks. The new restaurant will focus on healthy dining options.

Tiny Grocer

Owner Steph Steele announced that Tiny Grocer on South Congress Avenue will be closing and moving operations to a new location off East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in fall 2026, replacing the former Longhorn Meat Market.
