Honest Mary’s, an Austin-based build-your-own-bowl-style restaurant, will open a location in the Seaholm District next year.

What’s happening

The new eatery will be located downtown at 222 West Ave., Ste. 120, Austin, and serve the restaurant’s signature chef-driven grain bowls such as the Smoky Poblano, Aloha Poke and Honey Mustard Chicken.

Honest Mary’s customizable bowls allow customers to build their meals with toppings like roasted vegetables, cooked meats and fresh produce. The menu also includes sipping broths, kids’ meals, desserts and aguas frescas.

What else?

Construction on the new Honest Mary’s is set to begin in September, according to a news release. The space will include indoor and outdoor seating, with design elements inspired by the Seaholm District’s Art Deco.

“Seaholm is such a vibrant and iconic part of the city, and we’re thrilled to bring Honest Mary’s to this neighborhood,” said Nelson Monteith, Honest Mary’s founder and CEO, in the release. “Back in 2016, I actually worked for a company inside the Seaholm power plant—before Honest Mary’s was even an idea, and before the retail space existed. I remember thinking how great it would have been to have a place like Honest Mary’s nearby. Now, getting to serve this community with the kind of high-quality, nourishing meals we believe in feels full-circle. We’re excited to be part of a neighborhood that shares our values of wellness, energy, and thoughtful living.”

Monteith and his wife, Mary Monteith, opened the first Honest Mary’s in the Arboretum neighborhood in 2017. They have since expanded to Cedar Park, the Rosedale neighborhood and Mueller. The business also announced plans to open its first Houston location this fall.
