A new fast casual restaurant will soon bring the flavors of the Caribbean Islands to East Austin.

Chef Janelle Romeo, also behind local food truck Shirley's Trini Cuisine, is opening Twin Isle this spring, a fast-casual restaurant inspired by her native island, Trinidad and Tobago, and the surrounding Caribbean islands.

On the menu

Twin Isle will offer a customizable menu that encourages guests to build their own bowls or enjoy family-style dishes. The restaurant will offer rotating seasonal specials with Caribbean staples, such as curry crab and dumplings.

The menu offerings will include:
  • Meats including stew oxtails, curry chicken, curry goat, jerk chicken and steamed fish
  • Oxtail sandwich
  • Trinidadian bake and shark, which is a fried fish sandwich
  • Roti wraps
  • Vegetarians sides, such as curry chickpeas and potatoes; spinach bhaji; pumpkin; and macaroni pie.
  • Snacks, including ox fries, fried plantains and Jamaican patties

“I’ve always wanted to share the vibrant, soulful dishes I grew up eating in Trinidad and Tobago with as many people as possible,” Romeo said in a news release. “Twin Isle is an extension of my love for island cuisine and my desire to bring a taste of the Caribbean to Austin.”
