The East Austin coffee shop and hang has found a new home in the former Revival Coffee location on East Seventh Street. The refreshed menu offers reasonably priced brunch favorites, salads, sandwiches, wraps, burgers and fries, while the drinks span classic coffee shop staples to a wide mix of beer, wine and cocktails—including playful crossover options like the I Love You SOO Matcha, a tequila–matcha blend, and the Carajillo, made with Licor 43 and espresso.Small’s Pizza

After years of operating as a food truck in various spots around the neighborhood, this local pie purveyor has found a permanent home for its crispy-crusted New Haven-style pizza in Springdale General, a communal commercial hub in East Austin. The menu offers pies like the Tomato Pie—a classic New Haven staple with garlic, oregano, olive oil and pecorino on a blistered, thin crust. Other menu items include salads, sodas, beer and wine options.The Lost Well


The Austin metal and rock venue The Lost Well has found a new home on Airport Boulevard in East Austin, after months of closure. Billed as “the friendliest bar you’ve ever been too scared to walk into,” the iconic rock ’n’ roll, punk and metal venue, the new spot takes over what was formerly the restaurant Tropicana Bar & Grill.

Twin Isle

A new Caribbean restaurant from local chef Janelle Romeo, behind Shirley's Trini Cuisine, opened off Rosewood Avenue in September. Menu items are inspired by the flavors of Romeo’s native island, Trinidad and Tobago, and the surrounding Caribbean islands.

Luanne’s Coffee and Matcha

A new mobile coffee spot offering specialty coffee and matcha is now open off East Cesar Chavez Street. The coffee shop is LBTQ+ and women-owned. Specials include the Honey Cornbread Matcha Latte, Banana Bread Latte and Blue Coconut Matcha Latte.

Waylon J’s Barbeque

A new barbecue joint from pitboss Chad Deen and operating partner Lance Gresak is now open next door to Salty Sow. The restaurant is offering smoked brisket, sausages, pork belly, turkey and ribs.Pollo Regio


A new Pollo Regio restaurant opened off Airport Boulevard. The Texas fast food chain serves Mexican cuisine, including grilled chicken, flautas, quesadillas, tacos and tortas. Loaded potatoes, burgers and salads are also available.BARk House Social

The private off-leash dog park began serving food and drinks to pets and their owners in East Austin. The membership-based business provides access to a 1-acre turf dog park that is mud free. The business features a splash park for pets, and serves puppy bowls and ice cream, owner Sandra Vargas said. Pet owners can enjoy lunch and dinner entrees from three food trucks with indoor and outdoor seating options. A full-service bar offers alcoholic beverages as well as espresso and matcha drinks.

Austin Oyster Co.

New England oysters will soon be easier to find in Austin, as Austin Oyster Co. prepares to open its first brick-and-mortar location in East Austin later this year. Launched in 2020, owners Brenden Yancy and Drew Ahumada started their business as a delivery and catering service. Guests can look forward to the same oysters and service, now paired with an expanded menu and a full bar.The Learning Experience


The Learning Experience is slated to open near the Mueller area, offering education and day care for children from infancy to preschool.Dollar Tree

A new Dollar Tree store is slated to open in East Austin off Airport Boulevard. The international discount chain sells items at a primary price point of $1.25. Available merchandise includes seasonal decor, party supplies, dishes, food items, cleaning supplies, beauty products and toys.CityVet

The veterinary clinic is expected to open near the Mueller area The company provides veterinary and urgent care for pets, including medical, dental and surgical services. Additional offerings include pharmacy, bathing and grooming services, according to CityVet's website.In the news

Juan in a Million


East Austin Mexican restaurant Juan in a Million celebrated its 45th anniversary in July. Juan in a Million was started by Austin school teachers Juan and Myrna Meza in 1980. The business is still owned and operated by the Meza family 45 years later, said General Manager Juan Meza, who is the son of Juan and Myrna Meza. The restaurant serves Mexican breakfast and lunch food using homemade recipes, including breakfast plates, tacos, enchiladas nachos and quesadillas.
