A new thrift store that also offers testing for sexually transmitted diseases opened in downtown Austin.

The details

Out of the Closet Thrift Stores accepts donations of second-hand clothes, home goods and furniture and sells the items with a majority of the proceeds are donated to fund HIV care and treatment within the community.

General STD testing is available Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-7 p.m., and HIV testing is available on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. or on a first-come, first-served basis.


Zooming out

While the shop has opened and is operational, officials said they hope to have a grand opening in August.

The organization has other locations in California, Washington, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Louisiana, Florida and Texas, but this is the first location in Austin.
