Hays County, San Marcos and Texas Department of Transportation leadership held a groundbreaking ceremony for the FM 110 North project March 1.

“Today, we celebrate a project that will transform transportation in Hays County,” TxDOT Austin District Engineer Tucker Ferguson said in a press release. “This project will complete an east side loop in San Marcos, providing an alternative to I-35.”

The $36.5 million project was championed by Hays County Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe, and the county paid for the project planning and right-of-way acquisition,TxDOT Public Information Officer Bradley Wheelis told Community Impact Newspaper in an email.

The FM 110 North project is the last of three projects meant to complete a loop on the east side of San Marcos. The 6.5-mile road will connect to the southern and middle sections of road and create a new section of roadway from SH 80 to I-35.

“There were many who doubted this project would ever be built. The first discussions happened in the 1960s. Nevertheless, we’re here today breaking ground on this fantastic project that will bring so many opportunities to Hays County and the region,” Ingalsbe said.

The project is expected to be completed in the spring of 2024.
