Service Center Manager Lisa Cruz said the relocation was partially due to increasing rent prices.
"It was going to be at least $1,200 more a month," Cruz said.
Although the new location is about the same price as the nonprofit's previous location, Cruz said their new location gives them more space to have private conversations with clients who may need assistance.
The details
The nonprofit organization provides an array of emergency assistance services to the Hays County area, such as emergency disaster relief services and utility, prescription, birth certificate and I.D. assistance. The Salvation Army also provides a one-time transportation service.
"If somebody is homeless and they have a location that they can go to where they can get off the streets or they have unemployment, we confirm them, and then we can help them with a one-time Greyhound bus ticket," Cruz said.
The Salvation Army also serves as a food pantry every Thursday at 1 p.m. and partners with the Hays County Food Bank to give out snack bags to individuals who are homeless.
Lend a hand
Cruz noted The Salvation Army was looking to grow the organization's emergency disaster relief services team and is also looking for bell-ringer volunteers.
"That's the one time of year that we have to make the most funds that we can to keep all these programs running throughout the year," Cruz said.
Those interested in volunteering can visit www.registertoring.com or call the office at 512-754-8541.
