Buda City Council directed City Manager Micah Grau to execute a $6 million purchase agreement for a 30-acre tract of land on Buda’s east side for a new park project May 21.

The contract has since been signed, and the city will look to close on the property next.

How we got here

The project is part of Buda’s parks and recreation bond, which was approved by voters in 2021.

The parks and recreation bond projects make up $16.09 million along with a $2 million contribution from Hays County through its 2020 Parks & Open Space Bond.

The bond consists of several large parks and recreation projects, including the development of Garrison Memorial Park, Eastside Community Park land acquisition, additional trails, and park enhancements for Green Meadows and Stonebridge Parks.

What you need to know

The Eastside Park Project will be a regional park made up of approximately 70 acres.

Although the city has several parks in the central part of Buda, the east side does not.

Grau noted the city has been negotiating with various property owners on Buda’s east side, and then had the opportunity to contract a property on the east side just north of Hillside Terrace and east of Green Meadows.

“The desire was just to secure land on the east side for this regional park because the east side is quickly developing, and we knew it was going to be difficult to buy land in the future,” Grau told Community Impact.
